At the end of 2008 I came to a realization for myself. I don’t want to put so much effort into the actual pickup. Going out to a bar and chatting up complete strangers can be very difficult. Don’t get me wrong I like it and I will continue to do it, but I want to add a new facet to my game.

The thing that is so difficult about the cold approach is that each group and each new person you talked to is cold. They don’t know you and your value starts at zero. What this means is that every person that you talk to you, you must build your value up from zero and then start all over again with the next person.

Having attraction from the whole room before opening a set is a good goal to strive toward. This has become more apparent to me in the last couple weeks as Edge and I have played with different venues in the surrounding area. There is a huge difference when we talk in the higher energy down town bars and club environments verses towny and college areas.

Downtown in a fast environment, it is much harder to get pre-attraction from the whole room. If you look at a smaller college bar where the people are all dressed sloppy and you walk in as a rock star or in a suit immediately you are above everyone. You can talk louder then them after practicing in a much louder environment. People look at you like you are important and in your head you feel it.
