Today I’m going to visit a topic that a lot of guys who study pick-up talk about: being the AMOG (Alpha male of the group) or AMOGing (establishing yourself as the alpha male of the group).

There’s plenty of reasons this topic gets a lot of attention. For one, a lot of guys get into learning pick-up because they read “The Game” and they loved the imagery of ex-nerds stealing the girlfriends of the popular/attractive guys and muscly jerks. Moreover, there is nothing worse than some asshole coming along and making you look stupid in front of a bunch of hot women. On top of that, there’s the simple fact that women are inherently attracted to the leader archetype - the guy who calls the shots and answers to no one.

Rest in peace, 2008.  You were a great year. 

I want to take a moment and review some of the key personal experiences and insights that contributed to my learning in 2008.  Some of these learnings were fresh insights that I had never had before.  Others were things I had read about countless times, but didn’t truly understand until I had personal experience with them.  Granted, I had more than 20 learnings in 2008, but these are the first 20 that came to mind, so they made the grade.

Here, in no particular order, are twenty realizations, epiphanies and learnings from 2008.

I was talking with Legend recently and we were in a discussion about sticking points, motivation and momentum in the realm of picking up women and general self-improvement.

Every choice we make is not just a single event in a vacuum. No, every choice we make sets the direction of our momentum.

As Legend has said, the more you do something, the more you will WANT to continue doing that thing. Just to set the context, this applies to things that you know you should do to progress towards our goals, but just haven’t been doing.

Amidst the hashing, we started talking about how if we choose the good action and at least start, we’re able to keep going with it, without problem. The other night I had a conversation with my ex-girlfriend. Doesn’t happen often - frankly she’s been cold with me for many months now and it’s clear that even the friendship that we once had has gone sour. I’ve wanted to hold onto the hope that we’d be able to at least stay friends and have some kind of closeness, but it’s clear that it’s time for me to let go.

So what is letting go? Letting go is refusing to feed the thoughts about another person anymore. Just refusing to entertain them. Whether that means just being unreactive when the thought comes up or thinking about something (anything) else… When I stop entertaining thoughts on anything, it takes the emotional wind out of that thought’s sails and it disappears.

One of my favorite concepts in self-improvement and seduction is the concept of frames. I think that frames and beliefs are closely intertwined, so I decided to post about them together.

When I think of the concept of frames and beliefs, I think of Richard Bandler (co-founder of NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming), Ross Jeffries (founder of Speed Seduction) and Swinggcat (writer of Real World Seduction). These are the guys that I feel taught me the most about frames and they deserve credit for their work.

Two topics we regularly visit on this journal are discipline and taking action.  And with New Years just around the corner, I think all of can benefit from the feeling of a fresh start.

Why do we return to talking about these things again and again? It’s because I don’t get skills or progress from reading about them. I get them from taking continuous, consistent action until it’s drilled into my mind as a well-practiced part of me.

Sure, I can get enthusiastic and inspired. Those are great things to feel. But if I do not take action and endure the temporary pain of whatever it is, I will not make progress or move forward. If it wasn’t uncomfortable or painful to me in some way, I would have already done whatever it is I haven’t done yet!

The article was interesting, but fairly superficial - it did not get into specifics of how exactly they believe the brain is being rewired.

Years ago, I was in bad shape. People these days love to throw around the “D” word (depression), but we’ll just say that I was miserable and felt helpless and hopeless to improve my situation.

So recently I’ve written about rewriting some of my old posts because I felt they were off-putting. One of the things I like to do when something feels “wrong” is to distill what it is that seems to be causing that feeling.

What I think was off-putting about some of the things I had written is that it conveyed a mentality of one-up-manship. It implied that I felt I was better than someone else or that I overtook someone else in some way - whether it was the girl, my peer group or guys in general.

And when I read these phrases, I would think to myself, “Fuck that guy… oh wait, I wrote that!” Oops. It was as if what I was saying was communicating to the audience, I’m better than you.

It’s going to be those cold, dark winter months soon. Generally speaking, a lot of people tend to feel “down” in the wintertime. Sluggish, moody, lethargic, sad, etc. I have been one of those people, but in recent years it has been better. Let’s talk about some of the things I do to counteract the wintertime effect.

• 5-HTP: Most people have heard of the neurotransmitter, serotonin. Basically it’s one of the chemicals in our brain that makes us feel happy and well. It is a mood regulator.5-HTP is the chemical precursor to serotonin. And melatonin (which regulates your body’s sleep schedule) is the precursor to 5-HTP.So why am I sharing this here? Because as the days get shorter and it for more of our waking hours, our bodies release more melatonin to regulate our sleeping patterns. I have to say that when Legend and I started Pick-up Evolution, we had a simple idea: Make our journal public as we start our journey to improve our skills with women.

I have been thinking lately about how I can make this blog better. I believe that our blog has the most content out of all the dating advice / dating tips / pick-up artist / seduction websites out there. (Like those keywords?)

There are some other commercial blogs with more “content”, but I put content in quotes because the vast majority of it is just sales letters masked as content.

I have no problem with guys making a business in helping men improve their love life. I do have qualms with a guy (or a group of guys) starting a BUSINESS in pick-up because they want to have a business, not because … [Click Here to Read Post] »

If someone is talking in your native language, you can’t not understand them. You can’t not interpret the words they’re saying. Once you understand the language, your brain automatically will decode and interpret it - you do not have a choice or an on/off switch.

But that’s just language. When you see a picture of something, you can’t not interpret what it is a picture of… if you see a picture of a human face, you will recognize it as such. It is automatic.

I recently mentioned how I went through some of my old posts and saw that the tone of some of my posts came across as arrogance (which was definitely not what I was going for in posting).

Which brings me to the question: What separates arrogance from playful cockiness?

Some of the things I said that were off putting were along the lines of, “Of course I succeeded - why wouldn’t I?” or “… and then I did this to her and then I did this to her…” Things like that. Now, I’m exagerating it a bit for the purpose of this discussion, but some of it really did sound that obnoxious and I was totally unaware how it came across as I was writing it.

What made it arrogant was that I was kind of implying that I am flawless and that everything comes easy to me. I think that playful cockiness is about expectations, whereas arrogance is about beliefs about one’s self. Arrogance has a feeling of “I am better than you” whereas cockiness has a feeling of “I expect great things and I’m not ashamed to say it.”
